Joyce Nell Kellogg Reed

Joyce Nell Kellogg Reed went to her heavenly home to dance again with her high school sweetheart (Husband) Paul on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Joyce was born to Roy Warren Kellogg and Carrie Faye (Smith) Kellogg on September 17, 1929 in Sulphur. Her dad worked for Paul Reed Motor Company in Sulphur, not knowing her future husband, Paul, was just 1 year old.

She graduated from Sulphur High School and attended East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. She majored in Home Economics with emphasis in Home Decorating.

Joyce married her longtime sweetheart and extraordinary man, Paul Warren Reed, Jr. on November 23, 1950 in the main Post Chapel on a base in Ft. Benning, Georgia. The couple had a loving, fulfilling marriage that produced four children.

Joyce took great pride and passion in being a wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her life and was devoted to her family and loved her cousins and friends. You always knew where she stood and what she thought.

Joyce loved having fun! She loved listening to all kinds of music, and loved to dance! Joyce was really proud to say she learned to tap dance at age 62. She was a member of “The Happy Hoofers” in Oklahoma City. She always said- say that very carefully! She also loved to answer her grandchildren with a song, they thought she was crazy but they began to answer back in song too!

Joyce loved to collect cookbooks and read them over and over. She enjoyed many short stories too. She loved watching sports and her husband, Paul, loved telling of Joyce’s attributes, but his favorite was how she could throw a baseball harder and farther than most males she knew! She loved all animals and was known to take in strays from time to time, and a few crippled birds as well.

Most of all, being a member of Partners in Hope with St. Jude Children Research Hospital made her very happy.

Survivors are her children, Pete (Marissa) Reed, Tom Reed, Susan (Bo) Pierce, and Jill (Steven) Walker; her grandchildren, Colton Reed, Courtney Reed, Nell and Paul Pierce and their adopted grandson Nafee Kazii Pierce, and Bailey and Joe Walker; her nephew, J. Lackey, his wife Karen and their children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; father and mother; step-father, Harold Everette “Chap” Chappell; brother, Warren David (W.D.) Kellogg; sister, Mary Lee Lackey; brother-in-law, Homer J. Lackey; parents-in-law, Paul Warren Reed, Sr. and Flora Bailey Reed.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Christopher Edge of Norman and Elara Caring Hospice Care for their support and care through this difficult time. And to all our friends for your love and prayers that kept us standing strong. Thank you. We love you.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 27 at the DeArman Funeral Home Chapel in Sulphur with Rev. Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

Services under the direction of the DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur.
