After a season opening win over Wynnewood last Monday, the Sulphur Lady Bulldogs kept things going in the first week, winning two of three to start the year 3-1.
Sulphur beat Pauls Valley 11-4 last Tuesday at home before going on the road to beat Dickson 12-6 on Thursday.
The Lady Dogs suffered their first loss of the season in an 11-6 defeat at home to Purcell on Monday.
“We started off the season like we wanted to, going undefeated and that’s great because we have a really tough week upcoming,” said Sulphur head coach Heath Gilbert.
The Lady Dogs hosted Madill on Tuesday before co-hosting their annual tournament this weekend.
Gilbert talked about his pitching needing to improve some and leaning on his defense and lineup to carry the Lady Dogs early.
“Pitchers have struggled a little early on in the year,” he said. “We have had too many walks but otherwise they have pitched around those walks to not allow many hits.”
“Our defense has played well enough to get us out with some wins early and we have hit the ball well and scored a lot of runs, which made it a successful week.”
Sulphur will open play on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of Ardmore vs. Dibble.
With a win, Sulphur would play the winner of Turner vs. Madill immediately after at 8 p.m.
The semifinals and championship will be Saturday morning and afternoon, with the consolation bracket playing out all day Friday.
