Lady Dogs Win Four Games In Busy Week Of Softball

Sulphur softball won four more games during a busy week, pushing the Lady Dogs record to 6-4 on the young season.

The Lady Dogs swept a doubleheader with Madill last Tuesday, winning 12-2 and 9-5.

Sulphur then played four more games over the weekend at the Murray County Bash, beating Dibble 6-0 and falling to No. 9 (A) Turner 7-4 on Thursday.

On Friday, Sulphur bounced back with an 8-3 win over Lexington before falling 3-2 to Davis on Saturday.

The Lady Dogs were back in action on Monday night, falling 24-9 to Plainview.

“We started the week off last week with really good and big wins over Madill in district play,” said Sulphur head coach Heath Gilbert.

Sulphur hosted Byng on Tuesday before traveling to Turner on Thursday.

SULPHUR 12, MADILL 2 A big 4th inning blew the game open as Sulphur cruised in the first of two wins over Madill last Tuesday.

Sulphur scored six runs in the 4th, taking a 7-2 lead after Madill went ahead with two runs in the 3rd.

The Lady Dogs added three more runs in the 5th and two more in the 3rd.

Destry Muck was 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while fellow freshman Zoli May finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs of her own.

Savannah Patrick also drove in two runs for Sulphur, while Rylee Norman and Sydnie Rolin also singled for Sulphur.

Cheyenne Ruth pitched well for Sulphur, scattering seven hits and two runs across five innings and walking just one.

SULPHUR 9, MADILL 5 In a tight game through five innings in the second half of the doubleheader, a big 6th inning allowed Sulphur to pull away for the sweep.

With the game knotted at 4-4, Sulphur piled on four runs in the top of the 6th to take an 8-4 lead.

The Lady Dogs added another run in the top of the 7th and were able to hold Madill to just a run in the Wildcats’ final at bat.

May was 1-for-4 with an RBI double and three runs scored, while Gracie Ratchford was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Norman was 3-for-5 with an RBI, while Rolin had two hits and Muck drove in two for Sulphur.

Kinsley Rochelle pitched all seven innings, scattering seven hits and five runs while striking out 10 hitters.

SULPHUR 6, DIBBLE 0 The Lady Dogs had eight hits across five innings and got a dominant pitching performance from Rochelle to cruise to a win over Dibble last Thursday.

Rochelle allowed just two hits in six innings, striking out eight and walking just two.

She also had an RBI double at the plate, while Patrick also doubled in the win.

May was 2-for-4, while Jordyn Johnston and Muck each drove in two runs.

TURNER 7, SULPHUR 4 After leading 4-1 through two innings, a late rally by Turner proved to be too much on Thursday evening.

The Falcons pulled within 4-3 in the 3rd and then added four runs in the top of the 4th to pull away.

“They are a really good team and we were up 4-1 but had some late inning issues fielding and they got things going at the plate,” Gilbert said.

Muck had two RBIs and a double, while Norman was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Rochelle also had an RBI double in the loss.

SULPHUR 8, LEXINGTON 3 The Lady Dogs got out to a big lead early and cruised to victory on Friday at the Murray County Bash.

Sulphur scored four runs in the 2nd to lead 6-0 before Lexington cut the lead in half through three.

But the Lady Dogs added two more in the 4th to pull back ahead by five.

“We played really well and I thought we executed in all areas of the game,” Gilbert said.

Rochelle got the win, allowing five hits and three earned runs across four innings. She struck out five.

Johnston had an RBI double, while Norman was 2-for-2 with an RBI double, as well.

Muck was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

DAVIS 3, SULPHUR 2

In a tight contest on Saturday, it was Davis who pushed across the final run to eliminate Sulphur from the Murray County Bash.

The Wolves scored a run to break a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 5th and win.

“We played great but ended up getting beat,” said Gilbert. “The bats could just not get the job done that day.”

Sulphur led 1-0 after two innings and 2-1 after the top of the 4th before Davis tied it in the bottom half.

Rochelle was 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs in the loss. She also pitched, allowing six hits and three runs through 4.1 innings.
