Sulphur Principals Report Enrollment Numbers At Meeting

High School Principal Clete Cole report 466 total students in grades 9-12. Cole said it’s the biggest enrollment in the high school since he has been here.

The middle school, grade 6-8, remained close to same as last year at 318; intermediate school has approximately 300 students in grades 3-5 and the elementary school reported 346 for pre-kindergarten though 2nd grade with a grand total of approximately 1,430 students.

Cole also reported to members that the high school has 75 juniors and seniors currently taking concurrent college classes as well high school classes and 53 students attending Southern Tech at Ardmore.

Superintendent Matt Holder presented the financial report to the members, saying the district remains in great financial standings.

Holder told members the bond construction project is progressing on time and storm clean up continues with most of the new fencing completed.

Holder also said FEMA representatives have been conducting site visits the past week and will continue through next week.

Special guest at the meeting was upcoming District 22 Legislator Ryan Eaves.

Holder updated the current sporting events happening and invited members to the public pep rally, postponed from earlier date, to be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the football field on the eve of the annual Murray County Bash between Sulphur and Davis.

In the action agenda, the board approved the following:

•bond project requisitions;

•2024-2025 budget based Estimate of Needs to be approved by the Murray County Excise Board;

•$1,000 stipends for Mental Health Intervention Team committee members for 2024-2025;

•adding Holly Pulis and Chance Linville to the substitute list;

•fundraisers for the 2024-2025 school year;

•Title IX committee or the 2024-2025 school year;

•site plans for sudden cardiac arrest plan;

•dropout report;

•remediation report;

•for Sulphur Public School to use hours instead of days for 2024-2025 school calendar;

•Oklahoma Liquid Pool Resolution; •voluntary private prayer and moment of silence policy;

•strong readers act policy; and

•flag policy. Following a brief executive session, the members returned to regular session with no action taken and approved the resignations of Joy Magee, Megan Anderson and Jaycie Self.

Members also approved the employment of Abreanna Wood, Melissa Espana, Verna Mitchell, Miranda Laymance, Kylie Curry and Sasha Keck as paraprofessionals, pending background checks.

In new business, members approved the FY 24-25 contract with the Oklahoma Dept. of Career & Tech Education.

Member Bear Runyan was absent at the meeting.
