Dec 14 1933 - Sep 24 2024 Lawannah “Anita” Carr, of Sulphur, was born December 14, 1933 in the Dolberg community, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma to Lloyd and Willie (Bowlin) Summers. She passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2024 in Sulphur, at the age of 90 years, 9 months and 10 days. Anita graduated from Roff High School. Tom Carr and Anita Summers were married on June 2, 1956 at the First Baptist Church in Sulphur. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2015.
Anita lived in Sulphur most of her life. She worked for the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service (ASCS), U.S. Department of Agriculture, before her retirement in January, 1995. Following retirement, she has been a homemaker. As a child, Anita learned how to play the piano and started playing at church at the age of 12. She used her musical talent singing and playing the piano at church, revivals, funerals, nursing homes and the V.A. Center. She was a faithful member of Dolberg Missionary Baptist Church for most of her life before joining Crossway Baptist Church. In recent years, she has been active in the SASO choir, Church choir, the 55 and over group, participated in Heart 2 Heart and the Titus 2 program at Crossway.
She was preceded in death by her parents;, her husband, and four brothers, Lawrence Summers, Tony Summers, Wendell Summers and Jerry Summers.
She is survived by her two sons, Chris Carr, of Sulphur, and Kent Carr, of St. Louis, MO, and brother, Doug Summers. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate Anita’s life will be held at 10:00 a,m., Monday, Sept. 30, 2024 at the Crossway Baptist Church in Sulphur with Pastor Bill Leveridge, officiating. Interment will follow at Dolberg Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction and care of DeArman Funeral Home in Sulphur.
