Denzil “Denny” Leon Powell, born onAugust 29, 1940, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abby Winnford and Artie Gee Powell, and his brother, Jerry Powell.
Denzil is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Georgia Lee Powell, and their two daughters, Cyndee Lynn Weston and Denise LeAnn Daniells. He is also mourned by his sons-in-law, Larry Weston and Kenny Daniells; along with his cherished grandchildren, Denzil Leon Gonzales, Tanner Weston and wife Jamie, Reina Cratin and husband Matt, and Katie Taylor and husband Zak; and step-grandchildren, Cody and Kristen Daniells. His great-grandchildren, Dalton Weston, Walker Weston, Rylee Irwin, Weston Taylor, and Maverick Taylor, brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his sister, Winifred Cousins; and brother, Dolan Powell.
A proud graduate of Nashoba High School in 1957, Denzil married Georgia on December 19, 1959. He later earned a degree in Mathematics with a minor in Safety Management from the University of Central Oklahoma. Denzil’s career was marked by diverse ventures, from working in construction with his father-in-law, to a dedicated position at Western Electric in safety. He went on to found Wellsite Logging Inc., where he thrived in the oil field industry, and later owned E-Z Feed.
Denzil was known for his adventurous spirit, enjoying hunting, fishing, and camping throughout his life. His love for horses was evident, and he delighted in riding them until he could no longer do so. He was a dedicated OU fan, never missing a game and never leaving the house without his OU hat. With a remarkable sense of humor, he loved sharing and learning jokes, often being the life of the family gatherings. Denzil had a playful nature, always encouraging his grandchildren to explore their wishes and whims.
His legacy of kindness, laughter, and his adventurous spirit will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved him. Denzil Leon Powell will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on October 4, 2024, at Hale’s Funeral Home, 3370 S.H. 7, Sulphur, OK 73086.
