In a light agenda, Sulphur School Board members met for the regular monthly meeting Monday night.
Superintendent Matt Holder reported to the board that the school is in good shape financially even though they are still awaiting insurance and FEMA claims from theApril 27 tornado. Holder reported the total cash value in all accounts is approximately $9.4 million. This includes the general fund, child nutrition fund, building fund, bond fund, sinking fund and the gifts fund.
The school received extensive damage campus wide. Many repairs have been made and are on going. School personnel are now in the process of removing the old bus barn building destroyed in the tornado as well as debris.
Members approved declaring several buses and vehicles, some in the storm, as surplus and will be accepting sealed bids on the items.
Sealed bids will be accepted until 12:00 p.m. on October 31. 2024. Bids may be dropped off or mailed to the administration building at 1201 W. 9th Street, Sulphur, OK 73086 prior to bid closing time.
Two housing keeping items approved at the meeting were the 2024-2025 estimate needs budget and the class size capacities.
In the Superintendent’s report, Holder announced Fall Break for students will be Thursday, Friday and Monday.
In other updates, Holder said new playground equipment is being installed at elementary school; accreditation officers were here a few weeks ago and still working with FEMA and insurance.
Members were updated on many sports and club activities and competitions students have participated in campus wide.
These include band, softball, art club, E-sports, cross country, football and more.
In principal’s reports, Elementary Principal Shannon Muck told members the SES Fall Carnival held last Saturday at the school netted approximately $11,000 for the elementary school.
Before convening into executive session, members approved adding Cheyenne Adair, Tybrie Wood, Kayla McClure, Eva Blevins and Sue Rivers to the substitute list pending background checks.
Following a short executive session, with no action taken, members returned to approve the employment of Cheyenne Adair as a SES teacher and William Whitson as a paraprofessional.
All five board members were present at the meeting.
