Dogs Prep For Big Thursday Shootout

Sulphur, Bristow To Meet In Game With Playoff Implications

Two undefeated district teams will collide at Agee Field in Sulphur on Thursday, the winner taking a big step toward the playoffs and possibly a high seed.

Sulphur (5-1, 3-0) and Bristow (4-2, 3-0) will meet in the biggest game of the year for both teams in a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.

Neither team has played a common opponent, but Sulphur coach Corey Cole said this week, “Bristow is a very good football team.”

The Pirates have three double- digit wins in their last three district games, including a 3120 win over Victory Christian, a 58-48 triumph over Seminole and 49-6 drubbing of Mannford.

Sulphur, meanwhile, is averaging about 53 points in their last three district wins with shutouts over Perkins-Tryon (48-0), and last week over Lone Grove (56-0). In between those two games, the Dogs built up a 57-7 lead at halftime over McLoud and cruised in for a 57-14 win.

Cole said Bristow is very athletic with tremendous team speed.

“Defensively, they are aggressive and swarm to the football,” Cole said of the Pirates.

Bristow is led by Darian Dansby, who has over 1,100 all purpose yards through six games. “He is big, strong and has great speed,” said Cole. “We have to be great tacklers vs. him and the Bristow offense.

Bristow is led by head coach Chris Cole (no relation to Sulphur coach Corey Cole).

“They are well coached, Corey Cole said of the Pirates coach. He is in his first year and came over from Bixby and they are doing things similar to what they do. He has them playing great.

“We must continue to play fast, relentless, and aggressive… we must take care of the ball and create turnovers defensively,” Cole said as a key for the Dogs to win. “We must play our brand of football for four quarters.”

Both of Bristow’s two losses were to Class 4A opponents, Cushing, in their first game of the season (13-6) and to undefeated Wagoner (41-7), in game three.

“This is a huge game with both teams being 3-0 in the district,” Corey Cole said. “The winner of this game will have a huge advantage to winning the district title.”
