LaWanda Oneta Jones was born on April 7, 1929, in Davis, to the late C.F. “Frank” and Hattie M. (Durham) Brassfield. She died on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at her home, north of Sulphur, at the age of 95 years, 6 months and 7 days. LaWanda and the late F.M. “Pete” Jones were married on November 29, 1952, in Davis. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2013.
LaWanda grew up in Davis, graduating from Davis High School, Class of 1949. While in high school, she began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone, and spent 20 years with the company. After she and Pete married, they made their home on the family ranch, where they remained the rest of their lives.
LaWanda was an active member of the Crossway First Baptist Church for many years, as well as a longtime member of the Murray County OHCE group. She enjoyed socializing with her friends and attending weekly lunches at the Oak Grove Community Center. Although LaWanda was a great cook, she only did so when required. She was a loving wife, an excellent mother, and totally adored her beloved granddaughter, Meredith.
Survivors include her son, Fob Jones and wife Tracy; granddaughter, Meredith Jones; and dear friend, Donna Perhus.
Graveside services were held Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Palmer Cemetery, north of Sulphur. Pastor Bill Leveridge officiated the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in LaWanda’s memory to the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital Foundation or to the Sulphur Public School Foundation.
Services were “Entrusted To” HALE’S Funeral Home of Sulphur, OK.
