First Meeting Ever For The Two Teams, Coaches Believe

Sulphur will make the long trip to Mannford this Friday in the final, regular season finale after winning the district title last week over Victory Christian.

It is not believed the two teams have ever played, according to Sulphur head coach, Corey Cole.

“Mannford is a team that we don’t know a lot about and a team that I don’t know if we have ever played. We need to stay focused this week and approach everyday and every opportunity as an opportunity to get better individually and as a team that has big goals ahead. They have a really good quarterback and fullback that we must account for every play.”

The Pirates are 1-8 on the season with their lone victory coming over Cleveland in the second game of the season. They have losses to Perry (52-12), Sequoyah-Claremore (61-22), McLoud (35-14), Perkins-Tryon (42-7), Bristow (49-6), Lone Grove (35-25), Victory Christian (64-16), and Seminole (44-21).

Sulphur’s lone loss came in a double overtime thriller at Washington, the number one team in Class 2A.

Since that time, the Dogs have been dominant in the early season and against district opponents.

After Friday night’s game, the Dogs will enter the first round of the playoff in a game set in Sulphur on November 15. A win there, would give them a second home game on Friday, Nov. 22. The final two games of the playoffs will be held at neutral sites.

Cole this week thanked his assistant coaches, Keith Garrett, David Gilliam, Linn Marshall,Aury Barrett, and Channing Hickman. “These are some of the best football coaches and we are truly blessed that they are here pouring into the Sulphur Bulldogs daily. They have done a tremendous job of pushing these kids and making sure they are prepared for every situation every week - I can’t thank them enough.”

Game-time in Mannford this Friday is 7:00 p.m.
