Lyla Jackson Seghers passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024 in Oklahoma City, after a short illness, and just shy of her 100th birthday. Born Lyla Gaye Jackson on January 10, 1925 in Olustee, OK, she was the daughter of George Freeman and Mamie Gertrude Morgan Jackson.
She graduated from high school in 1943 from Sulphur High School.
Lyla lived in Dallas and later in Tyler, TX where she loved to play golf. After a short time living in Gulf Shores, Alabama, she worked for Exxon in Irving, TX, Bachendorf’s Jewelers in Dallas, Lone Star Life Insurance, later K Mart insurance, as an administrative assistant in which she retired. She had family connections New Orleans, and Baton Rouge, LA. She also resided in Tulsa during her brother’s cancer, later moving to Oklahoma City where she remained.
She was an avid bridge player, and known for her love of reading. She had a very full life, always meticulously dressed, and was fiercely independent.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Val W. Seghers; three sisters, Geraldine Farris, Norma Welch, Joan Collins; two brothers, George B. “Billy” Jackson, and Jimmy F. Jackson.
She is survived by son, David Arseneau; granddaughters, Angela Blanco, Julie Russell; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no public service. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Oklahoma City. Arrangements are being made through Corbett Funeral & Cremation, 807 West Wilshire Blvd., Oklahoma City, 73116.
