Dogs To Face Lincoln Christian In Thursday’s State Title Game

LC Bringing In 27-Game Winning Streak To Edmond
Dogs To Face Lincoln Christian In Thursday’s State Title Game

Sulphur coach Corey Cole said on Monday the pen is now in the Bulldog’s hands and they have the unique opportunity to write their own script.

Sulphur (12-1) was challenged only once all season and that was by a two-time state champ, but their task at hand this Thursday will likely be their biggest ever as they face undefeated and nearly untested Lincoln Christian for the state championship.

The two Bulldog teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on the campus of UCO in Edmond.

The LC Bulldogs have won 27 consecutive games and have not lost to a public school since 2018.

“Lincoln has an incredible football team again, they have talent everywhere, they are fast, big and strong,” said Cole. “We will have our hands full and definitely gonna have to play extremely well to have an opportunity to win. We will have to be extremely disciplined and play with incredible confidence, and we must have a great week of preparation.”

Sulphur’s only loss came in game one when two-time state champion Washington won in a double overtime thriller. Since then, Sulphur and LC have been on parallel paths, rolling over opponents by big margins week after week.

LC slipped by Heritage Hall in game two of the season this year, 28-20, but pounded Sulphur lineman NashWilliamson (55) and BrodyWallace (79) fire off the line in the Dog’s win over Checotah last week.

the Chargers in last Friday’s semis, 42-14.

Sulphur, meanwhile, has been averaging 62.3 points per game in their three playoff contests, while LC is slightly behind that clip with 51 points-per-game average.

Both teams have played two common opponents, Checotah and Idabel, and both teams won by wide margins.

Sulphur beat Checotah in last week’s semis, 68-21, and LC won by a similar margin, 68-12, in game eight. In the quarterfinals, Sulphur, pounded Idabel, 53-21, and LC blanked the Warriors, 48-0, in their final regular season game.

Both teams have pitched multiple shutouts this season, Sulphur with five and LC with four.

So, the stage is set and the final script has yet to written on two potent teams battling for supremacy in Class 3A football.

Cole said on Monday Sulphur will have to win the turnover battle and be really good on special teams to have a chance at victory.

The game will be culmination of months of preparation for both teams, hot summer workouts and early morning weight training.

Said Cole, “This is a huge challenge for our guys, but man they have risen to each challenge week in and week out. They show up to weights at 6:59 a.m. four days a week, they work extremely hard in the weight room and practice so competitively day-in and day-out. This journey started a year ago when Lincoln beat us in the quarterfinals and now we have a shot

to finish what we wanted. These guys get to write their ending and the pen is in their hands to write their ending in gold or silver!

“I am so grateful to be a part of such a great group of young men and so thankful for our coaching staff.

Let’s go get one for the Sulphur Bulldog Community Thursday night.”
