Big Crowd Gathers For Avenue Of Angels Ceremony

Acrowd of more than 100 gathered for the 27th annualAvenue of Angels Remembrance Ceremony held on Sunday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital.

Rev. Dick Terry of the First Free Will Baptist Church welcomed everyone to the ceremony and lead with an opening prayer.

Liz McClure then gave a brief history of the angel program and ceremony following by the Sulphur High School Singers under the direction of Paula Scott leading the crowd ina congregational hymn”Hark The Herald Angels Sing”.

The group then performed special music, singing “Crowed Table”.

Guest speaker was Dawson Muck, who presented a very heart warming message.

Following the message, special music was presented by the SASO Choir (Southern Oklahoma Senior Adults), who sang a medley of traditional Christmas songs.

Next on the program was the reading by of more than 275 names that are featured on the memorial plaque on display at the hospital. Casey and Mendy Young read the names followed by a moment of silence.

After the names were read, Tom Hefley of the Calvary Baptist Church, gave the Remembrance prayer before the lighting of candles by all those in attendance.

While the candles were being lit, the Sulphur Choir again lead the attendees in singing “Silent Night” as the angel lights were turned on on the front lawn.

Joey Muck then closed the ceremony with prayer.

The ceremony is under the direction of members of the First Free Will Baptist Church.

Angels in memory of lost loved ones can be purchased anytime through out the year. Cost is $50.00 per angel.Aplaque with the loved ones name will be placed on the name plaque that is displayed at the site.

The money is used for upkeep of the angels and lights and for purchasing additional angels. Donations are also appreciated.
