Wreaths Across America Ceremony Set Dec. 14 At Oaklawn Cemetery

Everyone is invited to a special Wreaths Across America ceremony scheduled for Saturday, December 14 in the Oaklawn cemetery starting at 1:00 p.m.

The ceremony will honor all military personnel from the eight branches of service resting in Oaklawn. Fresh evergreen wreaths will be placed by volunteers for the purpose of remembering the fallen, honoring those who serve and to teach the next generation the value of freedom.

This ceremony is the second year to be conducted and is organized by Murray County OHCE (Oklahoma Home and Community Education) clubs. These clubs have raised funds all year to purchase the wreaths.

The Wreaths Across America program was officially founded in 2007 by laying wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery which actually started in 1992. Today over 3 million volunteers lay wreaths and conduct ceremonies across America. The Oaklawn ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.,. central time, exactly the time the first wreath is laid at Arlington.

Parents are especially encouraged to bring their children to this year’s ceremony using the occasion to demonstrate American patriotism and the cost of freedom.

Partnering with OHCE for this year’s ceremony is the American Legion Post 148 of Sulphur under Post Commander Mark Estlack.
