The Sulphur Bulldogs got off to a good start in the 202425 wrestling season last week, claiming fifth in team competition and crowning two individual champions at the Southern Oklahoma Invitational tournament in Duncan.
The Dogs were led by Baer Webb, who won the 165-pound weight division and Giddeon Petersen, the 285-pound champ.
Three other Bulldog wrestlers also placed in the meet. They included: Landon Jones, 3rd at 120; Jonah Cole, 5th at 126; and Landy DeArman, 4th at 132.
In the championship bouts, Webb overpowered Shaffer of Cache, 14-1, and Petersen was an easy winner by fall over Warner of Lawton McArthur in 0:29.
In the lower weights, Sulphur’s Landon Jones won third with an 18-0 technical fall win over Rasnic of Duncan and Cole, wrestling for fifth place, pinned Eddington of Owasso in 1:37. DeArman settled for a fourth place finish in a loss to Burton of Duncan, 18-3.
Chickasha won the meet convincingly as they amassed 322.5 points. Host Duncan was 2nd with 171.5, Cache 3rd with 159, Guthrie 4th with 154.5 and Sulphur 5th with 152 points. Rounding out the top 10 teams were: Lawton McArthur 6th with 150, Berryhill 7th with 125.5, Comanche 8th with 121.5, Hinton 9th with 120 and Shawnee 10th with 91.5.
