This composite of two recent photos shows the tornado-damaged remnants of three of Sulphur’s historic downtown buildings. From left, Sulphur Bakery, Carousel Theater, and the Hassen Building. The building at right, anchoring the 200 block of W. Muskogee, was originally built in 1905. It burned in 1918, and the Hassen Building was constructed there. The theater was built in 1937 by J.D. Ramsey. It later was known as the Log Cabin Theater and then the Ritz. On the day after this photo was taken, the Sulphur Bakery remains were demolished during the debris removal from the April tornado. Reconstruction in that devastated area will be building on the foundations of a 100-year history. COMPOSITE PHOTO BY MIKE WEST
