Kirby Honored For Service To County

Vandagriff Appointed To Fill Unexpired Term

Former Murray County Assessor Scott Kirby was honored at a retirement party at the Murray County Expo last Friday.

A large crowd attended the retirement party including many county officers from all across the state as well as local citizens.

Kirby retired after 27½ years with the Assessor office, having serving 22½ years as assessor. His retirement was effective January 31.

Kirby has accepted the position as Director of EMS for Johnston County.

At the regular weekly meeting of the Murray County Commissioners on Monday, the board voted unanimously to appoint Bradley Vandagriff to fill Kirby’s unexpired term.

Upon the appointment, Judge Mark Melton administered the oath of office to Vandagriff before county officers and family members.

Vandagriff is a 12-year employee of the assessor’s office. He and his wife, Silvia, have two children, Brody and Sidney.

“I am looking forward to serving the citizens of Murray County as the Assessor,” Vandagriff said after taking the oath of office.

In other action, commissioners opened bids for the Murray County Rural water District 1 waterline replace project CDBG Grant.

Seven bids were received and will be reviewed and validated by the engineering firm and brought back to the board for approval in the near future.

Bidders and amounts are as follows: B & B Industries: base bid $649,603.00/alternate bid $38,000.00; Mach energy Services: base bid #1,046,000.00/ alternate bid $35,000.00; Timco Services: base bid $1,511,585.00/ alternate bid $109,600.00; Marsau Enterprises: base bid $ 828,122.50/ alternate bid $62,800.00; M & T Septic & Backhoe: base bid $564,934.00/ alternate bid $48,750.00; C D Brown Construction: base bid $507,275.00/alternate bid $41,820.00; and Goins Enterprise: base bid $1,108,379.00/ alternate bid $87,640.00.

In final agenda action, the board approved several declarations from various county offices for surplus equipment and also approved disposal of the surplussed items.

All three commissioner’s were present at the meeting.
