The Sulphur Board of Education approved the re-employment of all building principals and assistants at their regular monthly meeting Monday evening.
Following a brief executive session, members returned to regular session to approve the rehiring of high school principal Clete Cole and assistant principal Toby Todd; middle school principal Steven Pyle; intermediate principal John Mann and elementary principal Shannon Muck, and assistant principal Paul Scroggins.
Members also accepted the resignations of Kylie Curry and Tori Christian.
School Applauded For Finance Work
In other business, a representative of Bledsoe, Hewett & Gullekson, CPA, PLLC presented the annual audit for the year ending June 30, 2024.
No major infractions were cited in the report and the audit firm commended the school personnel for performing a good job with the schools’ finances and expenditures.
Superintendent Matt Holder reported the district’s current cash balance total in all funds is in excess of $10 million. These funds include the general fund, child nutrition fund, building fund, bond fund, sinking fund and gifts fund. Holder also reported the district had received another payment from the insurance company for tornado damage and the first FEMA check for $32,000.00.
Flu Absences Reach Nearly 10%
Absences in all schools due to the flu and other illnesses, that are currently plaguing schools across the state, has been steady at a little less than 10%.
Holder reported the site teachers of the year had been named and are as follows: elementary, Ronda Odom; intermediate, Brycelynn Robledo; middle school, Sherry Summers and high school, Lana Campbell.
The teachers are nominated and selected by their peers.
The Sulphur Kiwanis Club recognized the second-nine weeks’ Outstanding Teachers and Support Staff at the January 28 wrestling dual. Teachers recognized were: elementary school, Mrs. Katie Drawbaugh; intermediate school, Mrs. Jaylynn Flowers; middle school, Mrs. Mary Collier; and high school, Mr. Channing Hickman. The support staff winner was Janet Carter.
All five board members were present at the meeting.
