Two Performances Set In Ardmore
Sulphur High School’s Vocal Music Department will perform the timeless Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “South Pacific” in performances on April 4 and April 5.
Due to ongoing construction of the school’s new gym and performing arts center, the event will be held at the Goddard Center in Ardmore at 7:00 p.m. each night. The Goddard Center is located at 401 1st Avenue SW in Ardmore.
South Pacific transports audiences to a lush island during World War II, where love, prejudice, and moral dilemmas take center stage. South Pacific explores themes of love, acceptance, and the courage to defy societal norms. The musical is a powerful reflection on the complexities of human connection against the backdrop of war and societal division.
The musical premiered in 1949 on Broadway and was an immediate hit, running for 1,925 performances.
The original Broadway production enjoyed immense critical and box-office success, became the second-longest running Broadway musical to that point (behind Rodgers and Hammerstein’s earlier Oklahoma! (1943), and has remained popular ever since.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
