Dogs Go 2-1 In Sulphur Festival

Sulphur baseball hosted their own festival last week.

“This year’s festival saw some very good teams and good games,” Coach Mike Matlack said. “We played three very good teams and came away with a 2-1 record, which is a pretty big success for us. We finally put together all three phases of the game, and it showed. If we can continue to improve, we should be able to be very competitive in April.”

The Bulldogs beat Lone Grove 10-1. Colten Cole had two hits, and Bridge Barrett hit a double. Jett Runyan started pitching, and Cy Freeman finished the game.

Then came a 4-1 loss to Washington, with Luke Linville starting on the mound, and Traber Sartors finishing the game. Carter Cole had two hits, and Drake Wood hit a double.

Sulphur beat Ada 5-1, with Carter Cole starting on the mound and Mike Morris finishing the game. Colten Cole hit homerun.

The team is also grateful for the festival staff and volunteers.

“Thank you to everyone who helped,” Coach Matlack said. “Mother Nature threw us a curveball Thursday night with rain and the people who helped me absolutely knocked it out of the park.”

Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs beat Douglass twice.

At home, Sulphur won 12-2, with Kaden Seitz pitching the win. Morris had two hits, while Cash Matlack hit a home run, and Wood and Hayden Raymo both hit a double.

At Douglass, the Bulldogs came home with a 12-0 win, with Freeman pitching the no-hitter.

Raymo hit a triple, and Barrett hit a double.

Next for the Bulldogs will be the Kingston Tournament and Oklahoma Christian School.
