Decorated war veteran EdwardWegner was honored last week at the SulphurVeterans Center on his 99th birthday. He is pictured in the center of the photo above in a blue shirt surrounded by family and friends.
Born March 19, 1926, Wegner served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from June, 1944 to October, 1945. During that time, he received a Purple Heart Award, two Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Ribbon, Combant Infantryman Badge and the European African Middle East Threater Room Ribbon.
About 25 of Wegner’s family members and friends helped him celebrate the occasion along with a number Sulphur Veterans Center staff and residents.
He was showered with love, gifts, cake, cookies and punch. Recreation staff decorated two picture boards full of different photos of Wegner’s time at the VA Center and one of the boards was decorated with fun facts from 1926 and his military service.
Wegner was also honored with a separate birthday party by his nursing staff unit, who placed a large birthday banner of him in downtown Ardmore, at right.
