Girls Notch Win In Seventh Place Game At Rocky Clarke Invitational Meet In Washington
Lady Dogs Salvage Week With Much Needed Win

It was a tough week for the Sulphur Lady Dogs, as they lost three of four games but picked up a nice win on Saturday to close out the week.

Sulphur (5-12) lost at No. 12 (2A) Davis last Tuesday, falling 44-29. The Lady Dogs were at the Rocky Clarke Invitational over the weekend in Washington.

Sulphur fell to No 18 North Rock Creek 68-27 in the opening round and lost to Cache 46-28 on Friday in the consolation bracket.

The Lady Dogs rebounded, however, beating Casady 38-23 on Saturday to end the week on the right foot.

The Lady Dogs were at Madill on Tuesday and at Plainview on Friday.

Sulphur will travel to Marietta next Tuesday before going on the road to Dickson next Friday.

DAVIS 44, SULPHUR 29

Sulphur hung tough in the 1st half but struggled to score in the 2nd half in last week’s loss at Davis.

Sulphur trailed just 9-7 after a quarter and 20-17 at half. But the Lady Dogs scored just six points in each of the next two quarters as Davis pulled away.

“We did not shoot very well in the second half,” said Sulphur head coach Toby Todd. “We were down three at half and came out and scored only 12 in the second half.”

Davis had a 30-19 advantage on the glass and made 16-of-21 (76%) from the foul line, including many down the stretch to keep the Lady Dogs at bay.

Sulphur had 14 turnovers which resulted in nine points for Davis. The Wolves also had a 13-7 edge in second chance points and an 18-10 advantage in paint scoring.

“They are a talented team with some good young players,” Todd said. Kinzi Adkison had eight points, four rebounds and three steals. while Rasey Runyan also had eight points in the loss.

Jadelyn Scheer had seven for Sulphur.

NORTH ROCK CREEK 68, SULPHUR 27

Sulphur got behind early and could never get back in the game in the opening round of the Washington tournament.

North Rock Creek led 20-3 after a quarter and 33-14 at half.

“The Washington tournament was loaded with talent,” Todd said. “North Rock Creek is a good team that is ranked in our class.”

The Lady Dogs shot just 22% from the floor and had 17 turnovers in the loss, which resulted in 23 points for North Rock Creek.

“They pressed or trapped us the entire game,” Todd said. “They started off by making the first three 3-pointers of the game. We got down 9-0 really quick. We never recovered.”

North Rock Creek shot 47% from the floor and had a 30-12 advantage in the paint.

Adkison led the way for Sulphur with seven points in the loss.

Runyan chipped in five to go along with eight boards and two blocks.

CACHE 46, SULPHUR 28 The Lady Dogs hung tough in the first half, once again, but could not put four quarters together in the loss on Friday.

Sulphur got behind early, trailing 17-7 after a quarter.

But the Lady Dogs battled back to trail 23-17 at half.

However, things went cold for Sulphur out of the locker room again, as the Lady Dogs scored just 11 points in the 2nd half.

Cache led 34-22 through three quarters.

“We did not have a great second half again,” Todd said. “We were down six at half with the ball coming out at halftime and just could not get going.”

Sulphur shot just 21% from the field in the loss and had 17 turnovers.

Cache outscored the Lady Dogs 24-4 in the paint and scored 15 points off the Sulphur giveaways.

Sulphur did command the backboards, however, as Sulphur led 32-23 on the glass.

Jayden Lee played great for Sulphur, as she continues to improve as a freshman.

Lee led the Lady Dogs with 14 points and six boards on 5-of-12 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from behind the arc.

“She had her best high school performance,” said Todd. “She scored half of our total points and shot the ball exceptionally from three.”

Runyan chipped in five points and five boards for Sulphur.

SULPHUR 38, CASADY 23

The Lady Dogs ended the week with a positive, as they put the clamps on Casady on Saturday to pick up the victory.

“We got a much needed win,” Todd said.

Sulphur held Casady to just 18% shooting for the game, while Runyan did most of the work on offense.

Runyan almost outscored Casady herself, finishing with 21 points, seven boards and three steals.

“Rasey stepped up big for us and had all but two of her points in the second half,” Todd said.

The Lady Dogs led 11-6 after a quarter and 13-10 at half.

Thanks to Runyan, the Lady Dogs pushed the lead out to 24-14 through three before continuing to build on the margin in the 4th.

“We did not play very well in the first half but woke up and put them away in the second half.” Todd said.

Sulphur forced 22 turnovers, resulting in 15 points.

The Lady Dogs also had an edge in the paint, outscoring Casaday 30-6.

Sulphur also led 8-0 in fastbreak points and had 15 steals in the win.
