It was another great week for the Sulphur wrestlers, as the Dogs punched their tickets to the Class 3A Dual State tournament for the second year in a row.
Sulphur got a 40-33 win over Bristow last Tuesday to advance to the dual state tournament in come from behind fashion.
“We have been wrestling really well for the most part,” said Sulphur head coach Conner Webb. “All of the kids have bought in and have been working extremely hard.”
The Dogs trailed 33-16 late in the dual but got some wins down the stretch, including a pin from Landon Jones on one of Bristow’s best wrestlers to punch Sulphur’s ticket.
“I’m proud of everyone’s attitude and work ethic,” Webb said. “Hopefully we make some progress in our little time off to get us into the dual state finals.”
Sulphur, currently ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, made the dual state semifinals last year after qualifying for the first time since 2007.
The Dogs were at the Chickasha High School Classic over the weekend, where Sulphur continued to compete well as a team.

Gilliam won his first three matches by fall, before winning a 5-1 decision over Oakley Caruthers of Norman in the semifinals and beating Malakai Perez of Watonga in the championship 5-0.
Mobly went 4-1 over the weekend and won all four matches by fall.
However, he was pinned in the championship match by Eli Ramirez of Duncan late in the match.
Jones (113) was 4th, along with Jadyn McClure (138) and Eathin Kennedy (175).
