Graveside services for Joe Edward Barnett will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, at the Green Hill Cemetery, in Davis, with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr., officiating.
Joe was born October 28, 1950, in Pauls Valley, to the late Bobby Joe and Evelyn Jane (Wilson) Barnett. He passed away on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, in Norman, at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 14 days.
Joe grew up in Davis, graduating from Davis High School, Class of 1968. Following high school, he joined the United States Air Force. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Joe returned home and began a lifelong career in the oil field. Beginning as roughneck, he worked in various positions in the industry, retiring in 2007 as a consultant.
Joe was the type of guy who rarely met a stranger, but when he did, within a few minutes of talking, he had made a new friend. His outgoing personality created him a life of happiness and adventure. He had a passion for horses and enjoyed fishing.
Of all the things in life that brought him joy, his family was first on that list. He was a very proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He supported his family in all their endeavors, especially when it came to their sporting events. Until failing health prevented his attendance, Joe rarely missed an event his grandchildren were involved in.
Survivors include two sons, Shawn Barnett and Todd Barnett and wife Neeley, both of Davis; four grandchildren, Tye Barnett, Alexis Barnett, Kobe Kate Humble and husband Chayton, and Dallas Gonzales; as well as one great-granddaughter, Kollyns Kate Humble.
In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Matthew “Boots” Barnett, and sister, Lawanda Jane “Sissy” Gilley.
