It was a tough week for the Sulphur girls basketball team, as the Lady Dogs went 1-3 after falling twice at the Madill Winter Classic.
Sulphur (2-4) lost to Bethel to open the week last Tuesday, falling 40-31.
The Lady Dogs had a tough draw in the opening round at Madill, losing to Durant 68-18.
Sulphur bounced back with a nice 52-21 win over Boswell in the consolation semifinals on Friday.
The Lady Dogs, however, fell to Ardmore 58-30 in the consolation championship on Saturday afternoon.
Sulphur was at Byng on Tuesday and will close out play before Christmas at Pauls Valley on Friday.
Bethel 40, Sulphur 31
The Lady Dogs fell behind last Tuesday and could never recover, falling at Bethel.
Sulphur trailed 7-3 after a quarter and 22-15 at half.
Bethel extended the lead to as many as 12 in the 3rd and led 33-23 heading into the 4th.
Sulphur shot just 29% from the floor but held Bethel to 27% as a team.
The difference was from beyond the arc, as the Lady Dogs were 0-of-9, while Bethel was 9-of-26.
Sulphur led 22-6 on points in the paint and 10-3 in second chance points.
Rasey Runyan led the way for Sulphur with a career-high 17 points and seven rebounds.
Mabry Jones had six points in the loss.
Kinzi Adkison and Jessie Potter each had three, while Jadelyn Scheer pulled down seven boards.
Durant 68, Sulphur 18
It was a rough one from the start last Thursday, as Sulphur turned it over 36 times in a loss to Durant in the opening round of the Madill tourney.
The Lady Dogs fell behind early and trailed 15-6 after a quarter and 28-12 at half.
Durant led 50-17 heading into the 4th.
Sulphur shot just 19% from the floor and just 1-of-15 from three.
Runyan led the way with six points and four boards.
Scheer had three points and nine rebounds in the loss.
Sulphur 52, Boswell 21 After a good start, the Lady Dogs distanced themselves from Boswell in the middle part of the game on Friday afternoon.
Sulphur led 14-8 after a quarter but then held Boswell scoreless in the 2nd to lead 22-8 at half.
The Lady Dogs outscored Boswell 19-5 in the 3rd to lead by 28 heading into the 4th.
Sulphur forced 32 turnovers and scored 22 points off those takeaways.
The Lady Dogs also led 13-2 in fastbreak points, 34-12 in paint scoring and had 21 steals.
Adkison had a career high 21 points, six steals and four rebounds in the win.
Runyan had 13 points, seven boards and three steals.
Jones had nine points, four steals, three boards and three assists. Sulphur held Boswell to just 23% from the floor in the game.
Ardmore 58, Sulphur 30
Sulphur fell behind early and struggled to score again in the consolation finals at the Madill Winter Classic on Saturday.
Ardmore led 12-6 after a quarter and 32-15 at halftime.
The Tigers extended the lead in the 3rd, outscoring Sulphur 17-5 heading into the 4th.
Sulphur shot just 21% from the floor and was 3-of-13 (23%) from three.
The Lady Dogs were also just 11-of-21 (52%) from the foul line. Sulphur had 18 turnovers in the loss, which resulted in a 25-5 edge in points off for Ardmore.
Adkison and Jones each had nine in the loss.
Runyan had seven points and five boards for Sulphur.
