The Sulphur boys and girls powerlifting teams continued their strong seasons last Saturday, as the boys brought home the championship and the girls were runner-up at the Dave Tapp Invitational in Chickasha.
“I thought both the boys and girls teams performed very well,” said Sulphur head coach Keith Garrett. “I’m really proud of how our kids took on the challenge that the coaches set for them after their last meet.”
Jeremiah Knowles, Noah Riley, Nash Williamson and Austin Garrett each took home 1st individually.
Knowles totaled 1,075 lbs., while Riley totaled 1,180.
Williamson totaled 1,475 in the win, while Garrett totaled 1,365 and was also named outstanding total heavyweight squat (550) and total.
Connor Sullivan was 2nd for the boys with a total of 1,460, while Xavier Longoria, Cash Matlack and Caden Cole were 3rd.
Longoria totaled 990 lbs., while Matlack finished at 1,090 and Cole had a total of 1,425.
Joseph Smith was 6th for Sulphur, totaling 1,005 lbs.
“The guys are not accustomed to getting a runner-up plaque at any meet we compete at,” Garrett said. “And they responded extremely well by beating Edmond Santa Fe. who beat us at our last meet.”
The girls were led by Codi Reid, who finished 1st overall with a total of 715 lbs.
Gracie Ratchford lifted well, coming in 2nd overall with a 715 total.
Addy Hardoin was 3rd for Sulphur, totaling 485 lbs., while Madelyn McClure, Savannah Patrick and Olivia Cox were each 4th for the Dogs.
McClure totaled 480, Patrick finished with a 665 total and Cox came in at 645 lbs.
Hailee Jenkins was 5th for Sulphur, totaling 555 lbs., while Kenleigh Johnson and Mykell Woods were each 6th.
Johnson totaled 645, while Woods finished at 595.
Anahi Uribe was 8th with a total of 625, while Brylee Davidson and Kensley Rochelle were each 9th, respectively.
Davidson totaled 325, while Rochelle finished at 540.
“Our girls lifted really well, and are almost ready to be at their absolute best for what should be a very tough regional next week,” Garrett said.
The girls will be at Tishomingo for regionals next Tuesday.
The boys will be at Anadarko in two weeks for regionals.
