Sheriff’s Probe Leads To Drug Trafficking Arrests

For the third time in the last month, Sheriff Darin Rogers’ lawmen made a drug trafficking arrest.

For the third time in the last month, Sheriff Darin Rogers’ lawmen made a drug trafficking arrest.

What started as an investigation into persons squatting in a vacant residence turned into multi-county drug trafficking arrest of two, according to Undersheriff Ben Flowers.

Flowers said deputies initially responded to a tip in the northern part of rural Murray County in reference to persons illegally occupying the residence in question. A shotgun and bedding were located on the first visit to the property; however, no persons were located.

In the following days, Flowers said deputies attempted to locate and identify the persons involved based off the few clues left at the scene. In the early morning hours Deputy Mike Woods located a damaged vehicle nearby, according to Flowers.

The investigation became fruitful, Flowers said, when Woods found two people sleeping inside the residence in question and detained both as other lawmen responded to the scene.

During the arrest process, Woods located several suspicious pills and a bag of powder on the female’s person. A separate bag of crystal methamphetamine was located in clothing belonging to the male suspect.

As the investigation continued, Sheriff Deputies located the area where a vehicle had sustained damage.Apipe fence near the residence had been severely damaged from a collision with the alleged squatters’ vehicle, said Flowers.

The investigation ended with the arrest of Jacob Bond, 32, of Murray County, and Kelsey M. Jones, 27, of Ada. Both were charged in the Murray County District Court for several crimes, including breaking and entering, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, aggravated trafficking (Fentanyl), possession of controlled substance (Meth) with Intent to distribute, and conspiracy to deliver controlled substance.

Both Jones and Bond were charged after former conviction of a felony, which enhances the range of punishment for each crime. In total, approximately 16 grams of crystal methamphetamine were located and seized, Flowers said, and the approximate total of Fentanyl pills and pure Fentanyl powder amounted to 18.2 grams.

Sheriff Dairn Rogers this week said he is proud of his deputies’ persistence on this case. “I am truly grateful for the citizen who made the effort to report this tip. If something looks suspicious, I urge you to take a moment to report what you have seen. You can reach dispatch at 580-622-3918 for any tips or non-emergent calls.”
