Lady Bulldogs Open Slow-Pitch Season In Losses Monday

The Sulphur softball team kicked off its season on Monday, as the Lady Dogs dropped two games to Tishomingo and Plainview.

The Sulphur softball team kicked off its season on Monday, as the Lady Dogs dropped two games to Tishomingo and Plainview.

Sulphur (0-2) lost 15-13 to Tishomingo and 15-5 to Plainview.

“It’s early and we had some of our team competing at the state powerlifting meet,” said Sulphur head coach Heath Gilbert. “They got back during the middle of the first game.”

Gilbert spoke about the opportunity that the absence gave some of his younger players.

“It gave some young kids a chance to get in and show me something,” he said. “It will pay off in the long run.”

Sulphur was at Dickson for games against the Comets and Turner on Tuesday.

The Lady Dogs will host Lexington and Elmore City on Thursday before heading to the Plainview Festival over the weekend.

There, Sulphur will open with a game against Healdton at 10 a.m. Sulphur will play right after against Dickson again at noon.

Sulphur will host Madill next Monday and Marietta next Tuesday, with both games starting at 4:30 p.m.

Against Tish, Sulphur fell behind early but fought back to tie the game late at 13-13 before Tishomingo regained the lead.

“We just had too many errors and both teams were hitting the ball well,” said Gilbert. “We got lots of kids playing time and they were able to show something in a tough game.”

Brylie Sanford was 2-for-5 at the plate with two doubles in the loss to Tish, while also pitching both games on Monday.

Freshmen Cheyenne Ruth and Kinsley Rochelle each played well for Sulphur.

Ruth was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while Rochelle was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.

Kinzi Adkison was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

In the loss to Plainview later Monday evening, Adkison kept her good hitting going.

She finished 2-for-3 with a homer and a double.

“We didn’t play well against Plainview from the start,” Gilbert said. “We had too many errors.”
