The Sulphur powerlifters brought home another regional title last week and will now look to win their 7th straight state title.
The Dogs won 1st as a team at the regional meet in Anadarko last week, finishing with 272 team points and 15 state qualifiers.
“Being able to qualify 15 lifters is a statement on how hard our kids and coaches work at being the best in the state,” said Sulphur head coach Keith Garrett.
It was Sulphur’s 9th regional championship in a row.
“I’m really excited with how our group of guys came up to Anadarko and won in convincing fashion,” said Garrett.
Noah Riley (145), Austin Garrett (181), Connor Sullivan (245) and Caden Cole (275) each finished 1st overall individually, helping lead the Dogs.
Riley finished with a total of 1,155 lbs., while Garrett totaled 1,385, Sullivan totaled 1,475 and Cole finished at 1,425.
Jeremiah Knowles (145), Cash Matlack (157), Cooper Cole (168) and Nash Williamson (220) each finished 2nd for Sulphur.
Knowles finished at a 1,075 total, while Matlack finished with a 1,105 total. Cole totaled 1,045 and Williamson finished at 1,430 lbs.
Joseph Smith (145) was 3rd, while Landon Jones (123) and Xavier Longoria (157) were each 4th.
Smith totaled 1,030 to finish top three, while Jones had a 675 total and Longoria finished at 990.
Grady Hardoin (168), Caden Frost (242) and AJ Gordon (275) each were 5th for Sulphur.
Hardoin totaled 1,015, while Frost finished at 1,255 and Gordon came in at 1,180 lbs.
Jonah Cole (132) was 6th for the Dogs with a total of 755 total.
Sulphur will be at El Reno on Friday. looking for another state title.
Garrett spoke about the great chance many of his kids will have at an individual state title this weekend.
“We have four or five of our guys that are sitting in 1st or 2nd place going into state,” he said. “They have a real shot at bringing home an individual state championship and that would be more than double the number we have ever had.”
Garrett and his team can’t quite wait for Friday to get here.
“Friday can’t come fast enough for our kids,” he said. “We are at our absolute best right now “We are excited to get back up to El Reno and show everyone how Sulphur is the gold standard in powerlifting in this decade,” Garrett said.
