Of the 1,618 votes cast in last week’s Presidential Primary Election in Murray County, a total of 1,086 went to Republican contender Donald Trump.
The former president was far and away the big winner not only in this county but by a similar margin statewide.
Trump swept this county by a margin of 90.05 percent, compared to his nearest challenger, Nikki Haley’s 8.54 percent (103 votes).
Other Republican candidates had only a smattering of votes.
Statewide, Trump swamped his other challengers, garnering 81.83 percent of the Republican vote (254,864 votes), compared Haley with 15.86% (49,404 votes).
On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden won this county with a 48.41% margin (198 votes) with other candidates rounding out the total.
Statewide, Biden’s showing was somewhat better with a 72.98 percent total (66,875 votes), but nowhere close to the statewide mandate given former President Trump.
Only three Independent voters cast a vote in Murray County last week while there were a total of 931 voting statewide. Chase Oliver led in that total with 61.12 percent (569 votes).
