Dogs Pummel Comanche In Wrestling Dual

Sulphur Looking To Improve At Dual State Meet

The Sulphur wrestlers started their season on a positive note last week, as the Dogs beat No. 4 Comanche (3A) 51-24 in the season’s first dual.

The Dogs were in the dual state semifinals last year and are looking to take it a step further this year.

“Our expectations are extremely high,” said Sulphur head coach Conner Webb. “We plan to be back at dual state and be in the finals this year. I also expect several guys to be in the state finals.”

The Dogs return a bunch of talent, which Webb thinks will make his team stronger.

“I have several guys returning, so it’s hard to highlight just one,” he said. “I expect everyone on the team to be a leader.”

Webb is also more familiar in his second year as head coach.

“All of the guys coming up from junior high know what is expected of them and I have worked with them and coached them already, so I think that puts them in a good spot,” he said.

Webb thinks the strength of his team will be the culture and chemistry the group has.

“Everyone gets along with each other really well and we have a really fun team,” he said.

Webb hopes focusing on the little things will help his group grow throughout the year.

“Keying in on the small things and doing those right every day will be our focus,” he said.

The Dogs hosted Durant for a dual on Tuesday and are at Tuttle for a dual on Thursday.

Sulphur will be at the Duncan tournament this weekend in the last action before Christmas break.

“Early in the year, we just want to focus on everyone finding some success so we can get some momentum and keep it going throughout the season,” Webb said.
