Four Dogs Named To 3A-2 All-District Team

Four Sulphur seniors were named to the Class 3A-2 All-District team last week, after the Dogs finished the season 8-4.

Four Sulphur seniors were named to the Class 3A-2 All-District team last week, after the Dogs finished the season 8-4.

Coy Myers was named the Defensive Lineman of the Year by the district coaches.

Brytan Gaddy, Damontre Patterson and Billy Anderson were all named to the 1st team at their respective positions.

Myers finished off his stellar career in his final season with success on both sides of the ball.

“He had an incredible year defensively,” said Sulphur head coach Corey Cole. “The defensive line was a huge strength for us this year and he was the leader of that unit.”

Defensively, he had 57 tackles, eight for loss, to go along with 10 sacks.

“It’s a great honor for him. He worked really hard and played with an extremely high motor,” Cole said. “He had a great skill set on both sides of the ball and had a tremendous year for us.”

Gaddy was named to the team as a wide receiver after a great career as a 3-year starter.

“He was always consistent and a top offensive threat for us,” Cole said. “He had a really good year and even though we had a lot more options to throw to than in year’s past, he still led us in targets and that says a lot.”

Gaddy finished the year with 24 catches for 447 yards and five touchdowns.

“He was always a top threat for us on the outside and down the field,” Cole said. “He continued to make big plays for us throughout his career.”

Patterson was selected to the team as a defensive back, after coming over from Ada for his senior season.

“He was a really talented defensive back,” Cole said. “All of the coaches in our district believed he was a no-brainer at defensive back.”

He finished the year with 21 tackles, three interceptions and seven pass breakups.

“He had a great year and when people threw it his way, the percentage was not very high,” Cole said. “He was challenging people all year long and contesting passes. His speed was tremendous and he competed hard every night.”

Anderson started on the offensive line for Sulphur and was a big reason behind another year of success running the football for the Dogs.

“He was a leader for us up front,” Cole said. “Those guys don’t get enough recognition. We had a good year offensively and they were a big part of it.”

“Our offensive line got better each week. Billy was a two-year starter. He was a selfless leader that gave everything he had. I’m proud of him and it was wellearned.”

Four other Sulphur seniors were honored as honorable mention including Jeremiah Knowles, Trace Todd, Eathin Kennedy and Huston Holder.

Knowles helped the Dogs running game from his blocking back position throughout his senior year and career.

“He did whatever it took each and every week,” Cole said. “He was not the biggest or the fastest, but he gave it his all. He loves the game and cares a lot about it.”

“Playing H-back is like playing guard but faster because you are coming from out of the backfield. He was great at sacrificing his body and battled through injuries. He competed for us each Friday night and was a competitor.”

Todd played receiver and defensive back for the Dogs, wrapping up a solid career for Sulphur.

“He played multiple positions for us,” Cole said. “He started out as a QB and then moved to receiver. He was a big special teams contributor and a great defensive back.”

“Trace knew what it meant to be a Bulldog and understood our culture. He has been around the program for a very long time and gave us his all at all times. You knew what you were going to get each and every night. He was also a great blocker for us on offense.” Kennedy was in-and-out of Sulphur during his career but showed flashes when presented opportunities for the Dogs.

“He wasn’t here the last couple of years, but he is a guy that was really talented,” Cole said. “When he got his opportunities, he almost always took advantage. He had some big moments for us this year at running back, defensive end, and on special teams.”

Holder helped the team on special teams and in practice, as Cole praised him for his efforts as a senior.

“He was the ultimate team guy,” Cole said. “He understood his role and you have to have those guys. When he got his opportunities on special teams, he definitely contributed. He was a selfless guy that always put the team first. He practiced hard always and would do anything asked to help the Dogs win.”
