The Southern Oklahoma Library System (SOLS) was honored with the Oklahoma Library Association’s (OLA) “Library of the Year” award on Thursday, March 7h at the statewide conference in Tulsa. This award recognizes an Oklahoma library or library system that has provided outstanding programs or services that can be emulated by other Oklahoma libraries or has significantly impacted the lives of people in their community.

“Winning Library of the Year is more than an honor, it’s a celebration of our dedication to inspiring curiosity, fostering connections and embracing the diverse narratives that shape our shared journey,” said Gail Oehler, SOLS Executive Director.

Nominated for its exemplary institution as a beacon of hope for rural communities, SOLS has a mission that is deeply rooted in inclusivity and accessibility. SOLS has emerged as an excellent center of learning, serving five counties with eight libraries in Atoka, Carter, Love, Johnston, and Murry Counties. From literacy initiatives to technology access, the library has become a lifeline for families facing economic and social challenges.

SOLS places great value on building partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and educational institutions. These collaborations have enabled the System to expand its reach and offer a wider range of services.

With the addition of three Telehealth booths, three library renovations and the establishment of a passport facility, SOLS continues to expand on its mission, ensuring that libraries remain a dynamic hub for learning, growth, and opportunity.

“This accolade stands as a testament to the incredible impact that determination and community partnerships can achieve,” said Oehler. “I’m grateful to have a dedicated and highly skilled staff in place who are committed to providing outstanding service.”
