Bulldogs 7th In 14-Team Tishomingo Golf Tourney

The Sulphur boys golf team got back into the swing of things on Monday, as the Bulldogs competed in the Tishomingo tournament.

Sulphur finished 7th out of 14 teams by shooting a team score of 379.

“We have a smaller group than years past but the guys we have are committed to getting better every day,” said Sulphur head coach Grant Bates.

The Dogs were led by junior Alec Ivy, who shot 84 to finish 12th overall.

“I thought Alec did a good job of keeping the ball in play and staying consistent throughout the day at Tishomingo,” said Bates. “That allowed him the opportunity to score well, even in tougher conditions, and have a chance at a top 10 finish.”

Juniors Jett Terry and Trey Anderson shot 89 and 95, respectively.

Senior Casey Whitaker shot 111, while Mason Griffin shot 120.

“Alec, Jett, Trey and Casey have all improved over the last year and are in a better spot at the. start of this year than we were a year ago,” Bates said.

The head coach hopes to see continued improvement around the greens and believes that can help lower scores as they move through the season.

“I think for us overall, some keys moving forward are just continued improvement around the green and that will go a long way to score improvement as a whole,” Bates said.

Being able to consistently string shots together tee-to-green will also help the Bulldogs put themselves in better spots to improve individual scores.

“Individually, leaving ourselves in better spots from tee to green to not have as many recovery shots throughout the round will help, as well,” he said.

Sulphur is at Seminole on Wednesday for a tournament at Jimmie Austin Golf Course.

The Dogs will host their annual tournament at Sulphur Hills on Monday, April 1.
