A free press is the conscience of a nation. At the national level, many of the media outlets promote, support an ideology. The facts, sometimes fabricated, are often reported out of context or even skewed to correspond to an ideological agenda. Personal attacks are not off limits. Fortunately, the Sulphur Times-Democrat reports the facts. (Skeptics, please exercise due diligence and independently research the data reported by the Sulphur Times-Democrat.)

A recently launched social platform made personal attacks on the city council candidates as well as one candidate’s wife. Kathy John, Ginger Cornell, and Alan McKay suffered personal slurs and were accused of a coverup conspiracy. The posts were not only negative and offensive, but sullied our city’s reputation. Anyone thinking about relocating to Sulphur or starting a business would most likely have serious second thoughts about our community.

Little effort is required to research state statutes, open meeting regulations, and the policies/procedures applicable to city government. The people charged with the operation of the city of Sulphur, from the city manager, mayor, city councilmen to the city administrative employees, are accountable and are tasked with conducting city business according to the law. Failure to do so could result dire legal problems, even bankruptcy.

Regardless of any voter’s choice for councilman, every citizen should be thankful that our local paper reports the facts and is truly our city’s conscience.

Respectfully, Concerned Citizen (Name Withheld By Request)
