Three Sulphur City Council members were administered the Oath of Office by City Manager Andy Freeman at Monday night’s council meeting.

Wards 1, 3 and 5 members all retained their seats in last week’s election. The members’ terms are for a two-year period.

In an ongoing issue with city ordinances and codifications, members again approved an ordinance of the City of Sulphur adopting and enacting the 2024 Code of Ordinances as compiled by Municipal Code Management. MCM has been compiling, amending, repealing and updating the ordinances for the past several months. Members also approved a resolution notifying the residents of Sulphur of the adoption of thew newly compiled code of ordinances. The measure was approved at last month’s meeting, but failed to publish the ordinance within the 15-day time period.

Members convened last Tuesday morning to discuss the issue again and decided to table the approval until more information could be presented.

Members approved action on a previous request by Arthur Earsom regarding a fence agreement for accessing the Sulphur Municipal Airport from his property. Members agave the go-ahead for Earsom to proceed with his application and request pending FAA approval.

A bid from Power Play in the amount of $13,997.55 for parts to repair the Splash Pad was approved along with a bid for $5,250.00 from RJR Enterprises to install the parts on the Spalsh Pad.

In final agenda action, the board approved quotes on cleaning the grit chamber at the waste water treatment plant.

Members tabled two agenda items. A request by the Sulphur Chamber of Commerce Christmas Committee for a new sound system for the downtown plaza and an item seeking legal counsel to review personnel policies for the city.

City Treasurer Ginger Cornell updated members on the current finances and collections of the city. Cornell told members even though collections are on track, the budget is still tight.

In consent agenda the board approved the following:

•payment to FirstNet, a branch of AT&T for cell phone service in an amount not to exceed $900.00;

•approximate payment amount of $15,000.00 and $10,000.00 to Finish Line for fuel expenses for April; and

•payment of $1,006.79 to Warren Cat for mower parts.

In correspondence and updates, City Manager Andy Freeman updated members on work and repairs by city workers; TAP grant; fuel farm at airport; OWRD/ Chickasaw Nation Grant; lead line repair bids, etc.

All five council members were present at the meeting.
