The Sulphur girls softball team begins postseason play today, as Sulphur travels to Purcell in hopes of advancing to regionals.

The Sulphur girls softball team begins postseason play today, as Sulphur travels to Purcell in hopes of advancing to regionals.

The Lady Dogs (12-11) will open the 3-team regional with a contest against Madill at 10 a.m.

Purcell will face the loser of that game at 11:30 a.m. before facing the winner of the first game at 1 p.m.

The if necessary games will follow at 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.

“We have a great chance to win our district,” said Sulphur head coach Heath Gilbert. “We have beaten Madill twice and got beat by Purcell 4-1.”

Gilbert talked about a potential rematch with Purcell and how he thinks his team could fare differently in that scenario.

“We had our worst hitting day against Purcell but played great defensively and pitching wise,” he said.

Sulphur is excited for the opportunity and the chance to continue its season.

“Our girls are fired up about the chance that we have,” he said. “We have been up and down lately but are playing better.”

Sulphur wrapped up the regular season with a 10-9 win over Davis in extra innings on Monday on senior night.

“We got it going Monday night,” he said. “It was a great game to have right before the playoffs.”

Sulphur 10, Davis 9

It took two extra innings but Sulphur closed out the regular season in style on Monday night, as the Lady Dogs walked Davis off 10-9 in nine innings.

Kinsley Rochelle singled to score Gracie Ratchford and walk the game off for Sulphur.

Ratchford singled to open the inning, followed by a Lily Brooks walk and another single by Cheyenne Ruth to load the bases, before Rochelle delivered.

“It was a nail biter until the end,” Gilbert said. “We used lots of different players to hit, run and play defense. It was possibly the last game these seniors will play on this field.”

Sulphur led 4-2 through three innings and 6-3 through four innings.

Davis cut into the lead in the 5th, making it 7-6 Sulphur before the Dogs extended things to 9-6. Davis tied the game with three runs in the top of the 7th, sending the game to extra innings.

Kinzi Adkison was 3-for-5 with two triples, a double and two RBIs.

Ratchford was also 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, while Sydnie Rolin was 3-for-4 with an RBI double.

Brylie Sanford also had a double, while Codi Reid and Cheyenne Ruth each had two hits in the win.
