It was a tough week for the Sulphur baseball team, as the Bulldogs dropped three games ‘It was a tough week for us,” said Sulphur head coach Mike Matlack. “We played some good teams and I’m hoping the tough schedule here near the end of the season will pay off in the playoffs.”

Sulphur fell 3-0 to Newcastle on Monday and 7-1 to the Racers on Tuesday.

“We lost two to a very good Newcastle team.” Matlack said.

Sulphur got a good performance from senior Eathin Kennedy in the first game, but couldn’t conjur any success at the plate.

“He pitched really well for us and we held them to just three runs but we couldn’t get a timely hit once again,” Matlack said.

In the second game, the Bulldogs got down 4-0 early and were not able to dig themselves out of a hole.

“In the second game we spotted them four runs early and just could never recover,” Matlack said.

The Dogs fell in a tough 7-6 loss to Elk City on Friday afternoon, as Sulphur came up short at the end after a great pitching effort from Bridge Barrett.

“We played well until the final inning,” Matlack said. “Bridge pitched as well as he has for us all year but we just came up short at the end.”

On Monday, Sulphur fell 6-1 at Marlow.

“We walked too many guys again and that got us behind early,” he said. “They had a really good pitcher on the mound and he pretty much neutralized our bats.”

Sulphur played Lindsay on Tuesday and will be at Kingston next Monday.

Sulphur will host Ada on Tuesday for senior night before regionals begin next Thursday and Friday.
