A Texas man was killed and two Sulphur women and two children were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 near Marietta last Sunday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The accident happened about 1:52 a.m. in the northbound lane of I-35 at the 16 mile-marker, about one mile north of Marietta in Love County.
Troopers said Andres J. Vasquez, 27, Dallas, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash due to massive injuries sustained in the collision. He was the driver and the only occupant of a 2018 Buick Enclave.
Those from Sulphur injured in the crash were the driver of a 2016 GMC Yukon, Jodi D. Haines, 30, who was taken by Love County EMS to Mercy Hospital in Ardmore and treated and released with leg and arm injuries, the patrol reported.
A passenger, Carolyn A. Brown, 39, was airlifted to Medical City in Denton, Texas where she was admitted in stable condition with trunk internal and leg injuries, according to the patrol report.
Two children in the Haines’ vehicle, ages five and 10, were transported to Mercy Hospital where they were treated and released, troopers said.
Other aspects of the crash, including how the accident occurred and the cause of the collision, remain under investigation, according to the patrol.
Troopers said seatbelts were in use in both vehicles and the fiveyear-old was in a child restraint seat.
Trooper Brian Adkison investigated the crash with the assistance of Marietta Police, Love County Sheriff’s Office, Lighthorse Police, Marietta, Shady Dale and Greenville Fire Departments and Love County EMS.
