The Sulphur boys finished 4th on Thursday at the Lone Grove Invitational at Lake Murray Golf Course in Ardmore, as the Dogs closed out the regular season with a nice showing.
Sulphur shot a team score of 362, led by Jett Terry, who was tied for 3rd individually.
“We played well at a tough course,” said Sulphur head coach Grant Bates. “We were sitting in 2nd place for most of the day but just didn’t close out the last few holes to end up a few strokes back.”
Sulphur was 4th out of 14 teams, finishing behind the champion Lone Grove (307), runner-up Velma (352) and 3rd place Bridge Creek (358).
“We are doing a good job of prepping day-in, day-out for our regional contest coming up next week,” Bates said.
Alec Ivy shot 94 for Sulphur, while TreyAnderson carded a 90.
“Trey had a good outing,” Bates said. “He was just a few shots away from shooting his best round of golf for the year at arguably the hardest course of the year.”
“He let a few get away and as a group, we are working on capitalizing on consistency and the controllables on the course. This will help us have a strong and confident mental game as we go into the playoffs.”
Casey Whitaker shot 99 and Landen Woods shot 110.
Sulphur will make a trip to eastern Oklahoma for regionals, as the Dogs head to Wister to play at Wolf Mountain Country Club next Wednesday.
Three top 12 teams will be in the Dogs’ regional in Blanchard, Inola and Poteau.
The remaining teams competing in the regional are Ada, Broken Bow, Byng, Madill, Sallisaw, Stillwell and Verdigris.
