The Times-Democrat building at 115 W. Muskogee St. was damaged in Saturday night’s tornado, however, construction crews are starting this week to make necessary repairs. In the interim, we have temporarily relocated our computers and other equipment outside the affected disaster area in downtown until the building is ready to reenter.
While this issue is being published two days later than normal, we anticipate resuming our normal publishing schedule next week.
It is our goal to inform the public on all up-to-date disaster information as much as possible, attending and reporting on all council meetings and press conferences and providing as much additional information as possible within our means.
Virtually all the buildings in the historic business district were either destroyed or severely damaged in the tornado, not to mention numerous homes and other businesses outside of downtown.
Out of deference to the victims of this disaster, we are focusing our reporting this week on response and recovery efforts. Next week and in the weeks to come, we will begin to show the scale of the disaster.
Undoubtedly, there were numerous acts of heroism and neighbor helping neighbor during this disaster. If you have a story to tell, please share it with us by emailing jcjohn@sulphurtimes. com and we will publish as many as possible.
