Volunteers Assist Park Staff With Debris Removal
Cleaning Up

Dozens of volunteers descended on Flower Park in Chickasaw National Recreation Area Sunday afternoon to help park staff with debris removal in the wake of the April 27 tornado that devastated Sulphur’s historic eastern business district and nearby residential areas.

According to Interpretative Park Ranger and Public Affairs Officer Megan Wilkins, a total of 54 volunteers signed in to assist in the clean up. Their efforts produced a total of eight dump truck loads of brush, she said.

Park Ranger Kane Seitz, who was assisting at the site, said park staff was “overwhelmed’ with the outpouring of support by those volunteering their time and effort.

The April 27 tornado formed south of the park and plowed through portions of CNRA, tearing through Flower Park and the Vendome Well area before heading northeast into Sulphur.
