Mary Alice Cottrell, better known by her family as “Marme,” was born June 3, 1937, in Oklahoma City, to the late James Anthony and Elsie (Booker) Horn. She passed from this life on Sunday, May 5, 2024, in Davis, at the age of 86.
Mary was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother. Spending time with her family brought her the greatest joy. She was known to always be worrying about her beloved family, wanting only the best for them and their safety. Mary, no matter what she was doing, was continually teaching those around her.
If you knew Mary, you know she was a very hard worker. Much of her working career was spent with Button’s Auto Electric in Ardmore, where she worked as a bookkeeper, well past the age of 80, when failing health intervened. Besides working, she also enjoyed going for walks and reading.
Survivors include two sons, Monty Cottrell of Davis, and James Richard Cottrell of Marshall, TX; three grandsons, Chace Cottrell, Chance Cottrell and Derrick Cottrell and wife April; three great-grandchildren, Jackson, Rex and Clay; as well as several nieces nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob, Bill and Don Horn.
A private graveside service for the family will be held at the Lewis Cemetery, east of Wynnewood. A celebration of life will be announced in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Parkinson Foundation.
Services are entrusted to Hale’s Funeral Home, of Davis. Online condolences may be offered at halesfuneralhomes.com.
