L.D. Kesler

Funeral services for L.D. Kelser were held 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2024, at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Sulphur with Pastor Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment followed at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

L.D. was born March 12, 1930, in Wanette, to the late Loyd and Lena (Bratcher) Kesler. He died on Monday, June 3, 2024, in Sulphur, at the age of 94. L.D. and the former Ms. Doris Lavone Tigert were united in marriage on September 8, 1951, in Sulphur. To this union were born four children, Ronnie, Ricky, Becky, and Lisa.

L.D. grew up in Wanette. After graduating from Wanette High School, Class of 1948, he spent a brief time playing semi-professional baseball. Unable to continue a career in baseball due to measles, L.D. went to work on the wheat harvest. He then spent 40+ years working in the oilfield industry as a deck hand and driller, as well as working 10 years for Dolese Brothers.

L.D. was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his gardens. In younger years, he was active with little league baseball, coaching his son’s teams. He loved to listen to country music and attend concerts. L.D. also enjoyed tending to his cattle.

Survivors include his two sons, Ronnie Kesler and wife Cindy, and Ricky Kesler and wife Cindy; two daughters, Becky Doty and Lisa McDonald and husband Bryan, all of Sulphur; eight grandchildren, McKenzie Doty and boyfriend Tim Kemp; Kris Kesler and wife Myranna, Aaron Kesler, Chad Kesler, Jill Merchant and husband Josh, Lacey Doty, Drew McDonald and wife Kelsey, and Branden McDonald and wife Dehnna; seven great-grandchildren, Cory, Cadence, Chance, Rance, Whitlee, Austyn and Izaiah; as well as one brother, Royce Kesler and wife Zelma; and one sister, Shirley Biggers and husband Mickey.

In addition to his parents, L.D. was preceded in death by his beloved wife Doris, on January 26, 2009; one great-grandson, Addison Doty; and son-in-law, Don Doty.

Services were entrusted to Hale’s Funeral Home of Sulphur.
