Robert Leonard Sledd, a resident of Sulphur, was born on August 22, 1958, in Linden, Texas to James Loyd and Thelma Lois (Wilson) Sledd. He went to his final resting place on Monday, June 17, 2024 at his home in Hickory at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 5 days.
Robert was a lifelong resident of Sulphur, attending Sulphur Public School. Being the “Baby Brother” of three siblings, he never had to worry about getting into too much trouble because he knew his brother and sisters always had his back (good or bad). After school, Robert joined the Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk where he received two metals in his class. After being honorably discharged, Robert began driving an 18-wheeler for his father. He went on to drive for many years with several different companies, often all over the road away from home. Robert’s last employment was with O’Reily’s in Sulphur. Robert enjoyed fishing as much as he enjoyed breathing. Fishing, camping and back roading with his lifelong friend/brother, Mike Courtney, were just a few of Robert’s enjoyments in life. He loved his daughter, April, with his whole heart and soul as well as other family members and friends.
Those he leaves to cherish his memories are his only daughter, April Sledd of Kingston; two grandchildren, Dylan and Destiny Berryhill of Sulphur; one great grandson, Mylo Berryhill; brother, James Sledd and wife Denise of Chase, Kansas; two sisters, Linda Sledd and spouse Bill Campbell of Davis, and Sue Springer and husband Johnny of Sulphur.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, James and Thelma Sledd.
Celebration of life was held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Robert’s residence (2544 Standifer Road, Sulphur) with Johnny Springer officiating. Military services will be performed by the United States Navy.
