Council Approves Street Paving, Bridge Projects

Sulphur City Council members approved several Task Orders by Parkhill Engineering at their regular monthly meeting Monday night.

Task Order No. 2 is a proposed, 2024 street paving project that includes approximately 39 blocks in various areas of the city.

A Parkhill representative told members the next step would be to go out for bids on the project.

Task Order No.3 is a bridge replacement project on Muskogee Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets, and lastly, Tack Order No. 4 is approval for a drainage study project from West Tulsa Street to West Tahlequah Street between West 15th and 17th Streets.

In other business, members approved a Resolution authorizing application for financial assistance from a SODA Reap Grant for emergency funding in the amount of $120,000.00.

Other agenda items approved at the meeting included:

•placing an advertisement in the 2025 Chickasaw Country Travel Guide in the amount of $3,000.00 to be paid from the lodging tax funds;

•approving the FY 24-25 lease purchase agreement with BancFirst for the police units; and

•approving a quote for masonry repair at the Arbuckle Historical Society Museum in an amount not to exceed $37,000.00.

Members tabled action on repealing or amending the mobile home ordinance.

An agenda item that was discussed with no action taken pertained to potential plans for the downtown district to include rezoning, building facade guidelines and historic preservation ordinance amendments.

In consent agenda the board approved the following:

•payment to FirstNet, a branch ofAT&T for cell phone service in an amount not to exceed $900.00;

•approximate payment amount of $15,000.00 and $10,000.00 to Finish Line for fuel expenses for June;

•payment of $$2,852.72 to International Code Council for 2018 Code Books;

•payment of $3.500.00 to Sutterfield Technologies, Inc. for annual E-Court software and maintenance;

•payment of $1,987.20 to Southern Oklahoma Development Association for SODA membership;

•payment of $1274.65 to Plow Technologies for service call due to storm damage at Wastewater Treatment Plant; and

•approved the FY-23-24 budget amendments.

In correspondence and updates, City Manager Andy Freeman updated members on the ongoing weekly FEMAmeetings with a July 20, 2024 deadline approaching for damage inventory. Freeman also discussed the possibility of tearing out and replacing sidewalks and streets in the downtown area and moving utilities prior to the rebuilding of destroyed buildings and businesses
