Donald “Ducky” William Day

Donald (Ducky) William Day was born July 18,1943 in Sulphur. He died at the Sulphur Veterans Center December 30 at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 12 days. Ducky and Clarinda Ann Leming were married December 22,1965 at First Free Will Baptist Church in Sulphur.

Ducky grew up and graduated from Sulphur High School in 1961 where he enjoyed football and track. He joined the Army National Guard his senior year and later joined the Navy. He served on the aircraft carrier the USS Hornet. He was honorably discharged in 1964 and started college at Murray State College where he played football for two years. He graduated from East Central in 1968 and later earned his Master’s and Administrative degrees. He taught history and coached basketball, football and track in Stratford, for two years, coached basketball and was principal at Central Marlow for two years before returning to Sulphur where he spent the rest of his life. He worked in construction, cabinet building and oil field sales before returning to teaching in Sulphur in 1985. He coached and taught history and government. His Honors’ government classes were his favorite. He took groups to Oklahoma Close-up for many years and took three groups to Washington D. C. Close-up. He also drove students to the Court House to register to vote on their 18th birthday. After retiring in 2003, he again went to work in oil field sales and worked for Bio-Tech Inc.

Ducky was a very patriotic person. He started a flag program and presented more than 335 Flag programs to schools, churches and civic groups in Oklahoma, Texas and South Dakota. He was honored to be able to present his flag program at Mount Rushmore, SD in 2010.

Ducky loved his church, First Free Will Baptist Church, and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Whenever we traveled, we always found a church to attend on Sunday. He loved traveling with his family, and he and his wife visited all 50 states, as well as Canada, Mexico, Italy and China.

Ducky loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with a passion. He always loved babies and welcomed each new addition to the family. He was honored to be able to coach his three kids and two of his grandsons. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with the kids, grandkids, and walking half marathons with his daughter.

Ducky was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Ruby Day; brothers, Harvey, Johnny, Keith and David Day.

He is survived by his wife, Clarinda of 59 years; three children, Kevin Day and wife Jennifer of Ardmore, Lacrinda Howard and husband Marlon of Sulphur, Michael Day and wife Kelly of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; six grandchildren, Brittani Martinez and husband Devin, B J Howard and wife Lindsey, Bryson Howard and wife Brittney, Makenna Day, Wei and Yan Day; one brother, Glenn Day; and two sisters, Brenda Freese and Lisa Day; nine great grandchildren, Jackson, Parker, Hudson, Maggie, Violet, Grayson, Deagen, Mayzee, Declan and one to be named upon arrival in mid-August.

Services were held at 1:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025 at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Sulphur with Rev. Dick Terry officiating. Interment followed at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur with Honors given by the United States Navy. Services were under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur.
