He attended and graduated from Sulphur Public Schools before attending and graduating with a Bachelor of Business degree from East Central University, Ada. Following graduation Jim owned successful commercial paint and construction companies in California and Oklahoma. He embodied the qualities of a determine and diligent businessman.
He enjoyed playing golf, country dancing, going to the movies, watching football, reading and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities. He has always been a devoted father to his three children and had a friendly face when interacting with all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his children, Chris Mayes of Norman, Mandi Beeler and husband Jason of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jill Mayes of Newcastle. He is the proud grandfather of Mable, Francine, Joselle, Jackson, and Ryker, and great-grandfather of Luka; brothers, Roger and Carrie Mayes of Purcell, and David and Ann Mayes of Ada; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Lee Mayes. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care Jim received from Rivermont Assisted Living in Norman, and Traditions Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the INTEGRIS Health Foundation, Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute. To honor Jim’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service.
