STILLWATER, Okla. – In April, when an overnight tornado tore through the community of Sulphur, Oklahoma, hundreds of people contacted the Oklahoma State University Extension office in Murray County to offer help.

Former Sulphur residents, Sheri Hicks Witham, of Henryetta, and Gary Hicks, of Tulsa, are hand crafting “Sulphur Strong” Walking Sticks from limbs of trees that were destroyed in the April 27 tornado.

Murray County Commissioners and other county offices and entities will experience an increase in their portion of the county one-cent sales tax. Collections for the 2024 year were up more than $70,000 over last year’s collections, according to county officials.
