In a 2-1 vote, Murray County Commissioners approved the purchase of a new, 2025 pickup truck for the Murray County Emergency Manager.

Classes at Sulphur Public Schools will begin this Thursday, Aug. 15, one week later than was originally planned.

Sulphur council members at the board’s regular meeting on Monday heard from a few frustrated citizens and business owners regarding recent notices placed on tornado-ridden properties in Sulphur.

Against the backdrop of major construction occurring on the campus of Sulphur High School, board of education members were updated on several happenings going on at the school during the regular meeting Monday night.

John Holman, OSU Extension Ag Educator and county director celebrated his retirement after 11 years of service in Murray county. Holman was very involved with the county 4-H program as well as working with the state Blue Thumb water conservation and water monitoring program.

Sulphur High School’s new gymnasium is rapidly taking shape this week with the steel framework going up. In the background, the construction of district’s auditorium is also well underway. These two facilities and others including classrooms and a host of other additions are part of a $35 million bond project passed by Sulphur School District voters.

OnApril 27, a tornado touched down south of Veterans Lake in Chickasaw National Recreation Area. It traveled northeast for 1.4 miles and was .5 miles wide. Most trees in the tornado’s path were uprooted or had their canopies sheared off. Very few were left unscathed. Approximately 2,000 trees were destroyed with many more damaged.
